Gorilla Coatings: Maximizing tool life.
Choosing the right coating can be crucial for enhancing tool life. Especially in those tougher to machine materials. Gorilla Mill tools are amazing already. But having a seriously tough coating just adds to the badassery! Let’s go over a few of ’em shall we?
GMX-35: High Performance Coating
GMS2: Super Bitchin' Coating
WTF: Seriously WTF Coating!
GMX-35
A chromium-based coating with high wear resistance suitable for a wide range of materials from your mild steels to harder to machine alloys. Previous coatings used Titanium for adhesion when combined with aluminum. However, chromium improves bonding of some of the other secret shit that these witty chemists put in this coating. This, ultimately, making the coating adhere to the tool better. With a better friction coefficient than zirconium Nitrate (ZrN), GMX-35 is a great option when combined with a post polish for those abrasive nonferrous materials. Pretty sweet huh?
GMS2
Also a chromium-based coating. Similar to GMX-35, GMS2 is a great option for a wide range of materials but even better in tougher to machine materials. With a comparable structure to the GMX-35, GMS2 has higher thermal shock durability and a dual layer to help prevent oxidation. Resulting in your cutting tool reliability being much improved in high temperature materials. The smoother surface helps prevent material adhesion, allowing better chip removal when creating heat in the cut. GMS2 coating is one of the best options out there for getting some serious machining done.
WTF
WTF is WTF coating? Want to machine 4140 at a million billion SFM? Can’t help you. But WTF is a coating that loves heat. This coating has a base layer that provides ductility and an external layer that makes it resistant to oxidation and wear. WTF is an aluminum, silicon, and titanium-based coating. Simply put, bring the heat. Those stainless steels, hardened steels, or high nickel alloys are no match for WTF coating. With superb oxidation resistance and the ability to remain stable at higher temperatures, WTF is perfect for moving material quickly and efficiently. Technical specifications can be found here.
These badass coatings are just a few of the coatings Gorilla Mill has to offer.

Gorilla coatings are just a few thousandths of a millimeter thick but harder than steel; these low-friction coatings are extremely wear-resistant and chemically inert. The optimum coating is determined on the basis of both conditions of use and economic considerations.
